Whether you live in a city, suburb, or small town, you can be sure that wildlife is living nearby. Many species of wildlife are welcome visitors on our properties, but some individuals quickly wear out their welcome. Preventing problems with wildlife is much simpler and less aggravating than dealing with problems after they occur. Fortunately, knowing some basic facts about wildlife and taking a few simple steps can help you prevent many of the most common wildlife-related problems.

According to recent studies, since 2009 the county's assessments have violated the accuracy standards set by the International Association of Assessing Officials, an international professional organization that develops assessment guidelines and standards, that assessors check their assessments- known as sales ratio studies-for fairness and accuracy.

CCFB Commodities/Marketing team member, Kathy Bloomstrand visited Roots Community Garden in Palatine. Roots Community Garden is a 2018 CCFB Community Garden grant recipient.

Earlier this summer, my wife and I enjoyed a road trip to South Carolina for a wedding/family visit and then a stopover to hang out with our army son in Washington, D.C. I enjoyed seeing our country's different types of agriculture as we whipped through the countryside.

A month ago, when I started thinking about this column, my plan was to write about what our cows eat. Like us, they eat balanced meals complete with a supplement that ensures that they meet their nutritional needs.

Why do you teach about agriculture in your classroom?

I grew up on a fifth-generation family farm in Bureau County, IL. My siblings and I learned hard work and collaboration at a young age. My family raised corn and soybeans as well as wheat, oat, rye, and hay, most of which was used to feed our livestock.

As an intern with the Cook County Farm Bureau, I had the opportunity to join sixteen other teachers on the Summer Agriculture Institute. The Summer Agriculture Institute allows teachers to learn more about agriculture through first hand experiences.
