Join the Chicago Ridge Library and Cook County Farm Bureau® for a candid discussion about how your food is grown and the decisions today’s farmers make.  Speakers will provide an overview of modern farming practices, organic farming, and the use of genetically modified organisms (GMO).  Speakers will also address audience members’ questions.

Farm Bureau will host a policy discussion on Thursday, March 1 at 7 p.m.  To participate in the discussion, farmer members will receive an automated call just prior to the discussion asking them if they’d like to participate.  Once on the call, members will be able to hear the discussion, ask questions, and discuss topics of interest to them.

2018 Cookfresh® Community Urban Garden Grant Program Application Available!

Cookfresh® Community Urban garden Grant Program is designed to “help” community gardens access needed plantings, seed, raised bed construction material, soil, compost, fencing and more.

With Food Checkout Day scheduled for February 6, 2018 Farm Bureau families and partners have joined together to assist families during the most difficult time of their lives, when a child is ill.  Food Checkout Day highlights the safe and nutritious food that local farmers grow.

This month’s column dedicated to those born in another century.

“What century were you born in, buddy?” I ask myself sometimes when I accidently write the year as 1999 on a check (Yes, I still write checks because they are like cash… that green stuff the government prints which is supposed to be like currency)...

Next to asking my kids what they want from Santa (if anyone is wondering it was a skidloader for my loud, big-little boy and an American Girl horse for my blue-eyed girl), asking people about their New Year’s resolutions is my next favorite conversation.

New Year, New Labels: With the new year often comes New Year’s resolutions.  What are the most common resolutions? Exercise more, lose weight and eat healthier are often the frontrunners. Just how does one eat healthier?  I say by reading the labels and, as one of our classroom presenters Toni teaches, eat as close to the farm as possible. I love that saying!
