Nutrient Stewardship Grants and Pollinator Conservation Grants Announced
In December, the Illinois Farm Bureau’s Environmental Policy Team announced the 2025 county Farm Bureau recipients of Nutrient Stewardship Grants and Pollinator Conservation Grants. Cook County Farm Bureau was among the recipients.
Nutrient Stewardship Grant recipient project:
Cook County Farm Bureau will continue their research partnership focused on struvite (magnesium ammonium phosphate) applications on Cook County farms looking at struvite as a slow-release fertilize that could be used in place of other fertilizers to minimize nutrient loss. They will also host urban field days focused on urban and specialty growers featuring specialty crop struvite research.
Pollinator Conservation Grant recipient project:
Cook County Farm Bureau will enhance an existing pollinator garden and expand a partnership with Lincoln Park Zoo and expand the partnership to include Brookfield Zoo. The county Farm Bureau will also distribute pollinator seeds to farmer members to expand pollinator habitat in the county.
These projects are a part of the Cook County Farm Bureau’s Governmental Affairs Team and Public Relations Team efforts to serve members and improve Cook County.
