Agriculture Leadership Training program: The Illinois Agricultural Leadership Foundation, an agricultural leadership program based in Bloomington Illinois, is accepting applications for its class of 2025. The application deadline is February 28.

 

The 19 month program takes a holistic and immersive approach to addressing food security and sustainability issues through a series of seminars that feature leading practitioners in business, education and government. The seminars will require about 55 days mandatory attendance, with breaks in April and May and in September and October for planting and harvesting. Participants will also take part in a weeklong national government seminar in Washington DC and a two week international seminar.

Spring Tree and Fish Sale: The Will – South Cook Soil and Water Conservation District is currently taking orders for the spring tree and fish sale. Plants, shrubs, and trees are available this spring in various starter sizes. Tree orders must be placed by April 12 (prepaid only). Tree order pickup is on April 20-21 during office hours and Saturday, April 22 from 11am-3pm.

 

Fish varieties include channel catfish, largemouth bass, triploid grass carp, rainbow trout, bluegill, and minnows. Fish orders must be placed by Wednesday, March 29 for Gras Carp and April 7 for other fish species. All orders are prepaid only. Fish pickup is Saturday, April 22 from 11am-3pm.

 

All pickups will be at the Will – South Cook SWCD building located at 1201 S. Gouger Rd. in New Lenox. Order forms are available on the District Facebook page, website, or from the office. Contact 815-462-3106 x3

Agricultural job opportunity: The Will – South Cook Soil and Water Conservation District has created a new job position in which they are seeking applicants. The job is for an Education Coordinator/Technician. The primary duties include:

  • Responsibility for educational outreach and for development and delivery of District curriculum for both school-aged and adult education, workshops, and special events.
  • Public Relations point of contact and ambassador while working with partner agencies and clients to promote agricultural conservation to underserved communities and individuals within the boundaries.
  • help perform as crest waterways, terraces, vegetative filter strips, wildlife habitat, etc.

Soil and Water Conservation District Scholarships: The Will – South Cook SWC D is awarding several scholarships this spring. One scholarship deadline is February 15 with the other due by February 28, 2023. Applications are available on the SWCD website www.will-scookswcd.org
