Freeman Family Farm Granted Sesquicentennial Status
The Cook County Farm Bureau would like to congratulate board member Roger Freeman and the Freeman Family. The Illinois Department of Agriculture recently designated Freeman Family Farm located in Boone County, in the Cherry Valley area
To qualify as a Sesquicentennial Farm, a straight or collateral line of descendants must own the agricultural property for at least 150 years. The family received this historical distinction to their farm after their application for designation as a sesquicentennial farm was approved.
The Illinois Sesquicentennial Farms program has recognized 1,246 farms since its inception in the early 1970s. Sesquicentennial farm owners receive outdoor display signage and a certificate signed by the Governor and the Director of Agriculture. They are also recognized at “Agriculture Day” at the Illinois State Fair.
