City of Chicago Approves Horse Carriage Ban
The Cook County Farm Bureau® and our partner organizations, Illinois Horsemen’s Council, Chicago Veterinary Medical Association, Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association, and the independent City of Chicago carriage operators are disheartened by the Chicago City Council’s vote to end the licensure of carriage horses. It is unfortunate for all involved that science-based arguments and facts were ignored in favor of the opinions of a small group of people who hold unfounded beliefs. It is a sad day when the animals that helped build this city are banned from its streets. This is the end of an era. If the city leaders would like to revisit this discussion in the future, we would like to provide them with well-researched and scientific facts about the working equine.
