Food Checkout Day benefit for Ronald McDonald House

 The Member Appreciation Banquet of the Cook County
Farm Bureau in November 2009, provided the perfect setting for the kickoff of the annual Food
Checkout Day commemoration to benefit Cook area Ronald McDonald Houses.
Members of the Farm Bureau brought armfuls and bags of food to start our
collection of non-perishables.

Since the year 2000, the Cook County Farm Bureau has been
working with members to celebrate the affordability of food in the United
States by recognizing Food Checkout Day…the day during the calendar year in
which the average American has earned enough disposable income to pay for
their entire family’s food needs for the entire year. This represents less
than 10% of a person’s income, making food in America the best "deal" in the
world. Food Checkout Day 2010 is February 25th.
We are teaming up again to benefit our friends from the
Ronald McDonald Houses in Cook County. Members may donate money,
non-perishable food or toiletries, and pop can tabs.
American’s and Cook County Farm Bureau members have
reason to celebrate food affordability and we encourage everyone to share
the bounty of agriculture with Ronald McDonald House as we thank farmers and
the agricultural leaders in our country for their efficiency and skill.
A wish list from Ronald McDonald House includes:
Paper products (tissue, toilet paper, paper
towels, paper plates, garbage bags)
Aluminum foil, plastic wrap, and plastic
sandwich bags
Laundry detergent and fabric softener
Cleaning products (scrub pads, sponges,
dishwashing liquid, dishwasher detergent)
Bath and
bedroom items (sheets, pillow cases, towels, shower curtains)
Personal care products (deodorant, tooth paste,
bath soap, shampoo, conditioner)
Entertainment products (new toys, games,
videos, books)
Food (canned goods and non-perishables)
