Commodities/Marketing Team publishes updated Cook Agricultural Facts

Upon the release of the 2007 Census of Agriculture Statistics, the Cook County Farm Bureau Commodities/Marketing Team has put together updated agricultural facts for Cook County. The focus of these facts is to illustrate that Cook County still has an active and vibrant agricultural industry despite the urban pressures that have eroded at that base.

The facts are available in a business card format for any member who wishes to have a copy. In addition, the facts will be located at the Cook County Farm Bureaus website www.cookcfb.org. The facts include the following bullet points:

The 120 male and 64 female farmers of the county matches closely the ratio of 70/30 men to women farming in our Country.

Nearly two-third’s of the county’s $15,270,000 annual sales comes from the green industry, greenhouse, nursery, floriculture and sod.

16 farm operations in the county blend element of "agri-tourism" as a portion of their operation.

The major "traditional" farm crops in the county include Corn, Soybeans, Oats, Silage and Hay.
